Musiq Expo (M.E) got a chance to speak with Toronto (TDOT) native Bollywood Booz in a recent interview, which he speaks about his beginnings as a rapper as well as the coming of his new album. “We’re Over” (Booz’s latest video) has recently been added to Much Music’sRapCityrotation. Bollywood Booz is on his way to becoming another gem straight out of TDot

Here’s what Bollywood Booz had to say with us in a recent interview.

M.E.: Hey Boozy! Let me start of by saying thank you for taking the time to speak with Musiq Expo. I love speaking with artist who stay steady on their grind. So tell me, when did you first start rapping?

BB: I started rapping in junior high, I started trying to rap, freestyle and write lyrics when I was inspired by my boy Nikki who used to beat box and another rapper I grew up with who still raps today, (David Record) used to rap n freestyle over the beat box. In grade 8 our teacher had a lil class competition with who could come up with a rap about a candy drive the class would be doing in order to raise funds for a charity…I won and got to perform it over the P.A system just before classes began

M.E.: With so many talented artist in the game who are your musical inspirations, past and or present?

BB: A wide variety of individuals, recently drake and other Canadian artists breaking through and making a mark, but it’s always been Nas, 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z amongst other lyricists and or business savvy individuals

M.E.: Performing is what artists love to do. What was the first song you ever performed and where?

BB: I believe the most notable first time I got to perform was at Humber College in Rexdale. I got a lot of exposure from that school, entering into rap battles which wound me in the Humber newspaper, other showcases for the school etc. I performed a track featuring rapper Casino Costa called Twist Twist, which had more of a club vibe, amongst other songs as well.

M.E.: Where would you most like to perform in the future?

BB: I’ve always wanted to perform at Yonge and Dundas Sq. for a large audience. I got to complete that goal summer 2010 performing for a large out door event, that opened the door for me to perform at the just for laughs concert theatre in Montreal, now I think popular Toronto venues like sound academy and things like that are up next, possibly opening for big name artists to build up exposure and stage experience.

M.E.: Collaborations sometimes gets a music artist out there, especially if it with a commercial artist. Which artist in the industry would you like to do a collab with?

BB: I would love to have a collab with Nas; he’s someone I have always looked up to coming up. Aside from that I would love to keep it Canadian and worth with K’naan or Drake.

M.E.: If you could dip into another genre of music, what would it be?

BB: I go by the name of Bollywood Booz, the Bollywood part is there to help people identify with my culture, so I have a song called Bottomz Up (Daru Peeke) which mixes Indian music (bhangra) with hiphop… so you can expect to hear more of that mix sound from me moving forward as well. Aside from that, I just look forward to making good music, so if artistically it allows me to jump on a pop record, something like Ludacris might do…I would be open to that as well.

M.E.: Do you think its hard being an artist in Canada? Why?

BB: I think it used to be a lot harder before, now with having so many successful breakthrough artists and American artists reaching out to our talented producers, the doors have opened much wider since we are definitely on the hiphop map going hard.

M.E.: You have accomplished a lot in your career thus far. What else can we expect from you in the future?

BB: You can expect me to keep making music, trying to out due whatever I have previously done and just keep trying to make the music that I enjoy. Look out for my new music video We’re Over which has been recently added to Much Music Rap City.  Also I will continue to drop some more videos off my current album called BOTTOMZ UP which is completed and will be officially released in a couple months. It features artists like Mayhem Morearty, Gangis Khan, Mason Payne, Soca/RnB artist Ms. Paige and many others it also features some of TDOT’s best producers including RichKidd, Arthur Mcarthur, BigPops, Kemikal and Vokab. The Hustle Flip Fam is all over the album as well.

M.E.: Your music is hot, you’re on fire! Where can we buy your music Booz?

BB: I have pre-release copies of the Album which looks like its straight out of HMV. They are available for $5. Simply hit me up or catch me at a performance to get your official copy. Other than that I will have a free download available for a period of time once the album is officially released THIS YEAR!!!
