MusiqExpo (M.E.) got the chance to speak with New Orleans native Martyr Man. Born and bread in New Orleans, this instantly captivating artist can only be described as “A grinding, push till he dies lyricist”. Releasing his first album in 2010, “Bleed’ n Soul,” he is known more recently for his radio single “Shadows,” which is undeniably blasting its way through an international fan base. “Shadows” is currently on 16 radio stations and growing.
Here’s what he had to say in his recent interview with us:
M.E.: Where did the name Martyr Man originate from?
MM: My name is who I am, a martyr is someone who dies for what he/she believes in. first off let me say this I don’t have a death wish…lol! I just believe that we should all have something we should be willing to die for…family, friends, religious beliefs etc… in my case I believe I’m here to put substance back in hip-hop.
M.E.: Growing up as a child what was your first experience with music like? What song was the most memorable?
MM: The first song I remembered as a kid, was silly by Denise Williams! Every time I hear that song it gives me a feeling I never felt before. My first experience with music was about when I was ten years old, beatbox’n and learning how to rap at school!
M.E.: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
MM: Music is very influential. I knew I had a different and unique way of thinking, so if I could translate that to hip-hop I could truly make a difference.
M.E.: How would you describe your music for the public audience if they never heard your music before?
MM: My music is truthful, soulful, spiritual, lyrical, authentic and hilarious!
M.E.: What can people expect to see at your live performances?
MM: Entertainment, emotion and good energy.
M.E.: What image do you think your music conveys and why did you choose this type of image for your music?
MM: My music does not have a certain image. It represents so many different emotions, so it’s hard to label it anything! My image is why not be yourself and make a difference, rather than being someone you’re not! I also believe you should always speak your truth! Express how you feel because words have power, whether good or bad.
M.E.: What sets you aside from other music artists out there?
MM: I’m entertaining but I’m really honest, authentic and a leader, humble but confident.
M.E.: What are your songs about?
MM: Life, love, hatred, deception, mental insanity, the love for music, sex, and having fun!
M.E.: Where can people buy your music?
MM: My album is titled STRANDED it will be released in spring! My single “Shadows” is currently on 16 radio stations and growing! They can purchase it from iTunes, CD Baby etc
